visita

diego (above) and the lovely kim "the murr" murrey will join jesse and me this saturday evening 6pm-8pm CST on "these are the breaks" to show nashville what's up. like most of the past 8 weeks, expect lots of break beats and electronica - but this time 2 additional guests will be in the studio to play their part. it won't be anything like my show, but it should be fun. especially if the murr breaks out some chinese food.

some new portishead to assist in your next jamming out session (because we all have jamming out sessions, right?):

mo' better mixtapes

even though my dj training doesn't end for another 2 weeks, i'm already indulging in playlist fantasies. without a doubt, one of my first shows will be all about trains. i recently discovered oliver east - he did all the artwork on the forthcoming elbow album and has a cult following with his trains are...mint book series. here's some of what he's done:

so oliver east basically throws on a backpack every couple months, follows the train tracks out of town, and draws/writes what he sees along the way. i think train-inspired wanderlust and homesick blues are fantastic themes for a book series and one of my first solo radio shows. i've always had a fascination with trains and have rarely lived my life very far from them or the interruptions they bring.

holy saturday!

tonight i'll take over the soundboard for a full 2-hour set instead of the standard 20-30 minutes. it won't be like future shows (if i GET a future show), but it's been fun piecing together the set nevertheless.

unfortunately, if i do get a show in may the first hour will be rotation and the second hour i'll play what i want to play - until i make it up the ladder to "specialty show" in a couple semesters. also, tonight's show won't have a theme. AND it's somewhat limited since i had to rely heavily on tracks already on my computer thanks to my recent move.

but it's a start.
