this week's mix will be all the best in northern soul music. in the 60's a lot of north english kids who were bored with rock and roll listened to underground uptempo soul music instead. they called it northern soul to draw a distinction between what they liked and popular r&b. the scene's influence is still around - breakdancing is very similar to northern soul dancing and skinny jeans, quirky buttons, patches, etc. all come from the northern soul subculture.
i have a modest n.s. collection of my own, but if it weren't for the soul girl i wouldn't have i saw you there by the appointments (a 45 that sells for $5000 in england!) or voodoo man by four tracks (worth $3000!).
so tune in this sunday night from 8-10pm cst to hear the best in bass-and-beat-driven soul music the first hour and good new stuff the second hour. at least you'll get your money's worth.
music is posted on this site for word-of-mouth purposes only. if you like any of the music featured here, please purchase it to support the artists and your local record store. if you own music here and want me to take it down i'll remove it right away if you email me.
